Chief information officers are reaching out to each other in addressing unique difficulties created by the coronavirus pandemic, sharing best practices and other strategies, in some cases even with archrivals, CIOs and analysts said. Mr. Gupta said many IT leaders are swapping insights via group emails, surveys, videoconferencing and document-sharing tools. He said a majority of public-sector CIOs—from federal agencies to city halls—are sharing best practices and lessons learned from ongoing IT continuity efforts in public safety, health care, transportation, utility services and other functions. The state’s CIOs are now meeting online roughly once a week, up from face-to-face meetings every fiscal quarter before the crisis, he said.
