Although post mortem revealed that she was murdered, Jamalpur police failed to make any progress since no such case was filed in that district. After a few months, the case was eventually transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) by Police Headquarters. Jamalpur CID started by trying to identify the victim, said S. M. Monsur Musa, Assistant Superintendent Police of CID, Jamalpur. With the help of the DNA Bank, the investigation team matched the DNA of the dead body with probable parents.
