CHAOTIC SITUATION : University Students Protest, Blocked House Speaker’s Convoy, Demands President's Resignation -


Students of the State run university, the University of Liberia (UL) barricaded both campuses of the university in the city center and that of the Findell outside the capital, angrily in demand of the reopening of the registration excises which was closed by the administration. The angry students in their numbers stormed both campuses chanting slogans also in demand of the immediate resignation of the President of the University, Dr. Ophelia Innez Weeks, who they said has deliberately refused to continue the registration of over 8,000 students. As a result of the students’ protest, normal working activities on both campuses were at standstill, with angry students burning car tires were set ablaze at various locations including the front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where the offices of the Liberian presidency is located. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Bhophal Chambers who made all attempts to calm the students down, asking them to allow him passage to the UL campus to meet with the Administration on their was denied as the students blocked all vehicles from passing including the speaker’s convoy from passing through.
