CF-18 fighter jet crashes in northeast Alberta

OTTAWA—An air force pilot is dead after his CF-18 fighter jet crashed during a training flight Monday. Lt.-Gen. Michael Hood, the head of the Royal Canadian Air Force, confirmed the sad news during an appearance before the Senate defence committee. “It’s a very sad day for the Royal Canadian Air Force and certainly my heartfelt concerns go out to the family.”He said the name of the pilot would be withheld until family members had been notified. He said a flight safety investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the crash. The crash happened just after 1 p.m., Toronto time, on a weapons range that straddles the Alberta-Saskatchewan border.
