Chandigarh, Aug. 7: Chandigarh police today claimed a lack of CCTV footage in the stalking case involving the Haryana BJP chief's son, deepening speculation about deliberate derailing of the probe and prompting the top brass to rush to control damage. "It is correct that our cameras installed on the road are not functioning, but there are private buildings along the stretch and we are examining the CCTV cameras installed there," Singhal said. "If we now say that no CCTV footage is available, it would strengthen the suspicion that the police are under political pressure," an officer said. A senior Punjab police officer, from whom this newspaper sought an independent opinion, said CCTV footage would be crucial to establishing the victim's claims. A senior officer of the Chandigarh police said: "The incident happened after midnight, and finding witnesses is not going to be easy in a case with political involvement."
