The announcement follows CBK's earlier notification regarding the release of new banknotes equipped with advanced security features. Currently, the following coins are in circulation: KSh 1, KSh 5, KSh 10, KSh 20, and Kibaki's KSh 40 coin. Banknotes in circulation include KSh 50, KSh 100, KSh 200, KSh 500, and KSh 1000. 40 Years of Independence (2003): Gold coin valued at KSh 5,000 and a commemorative note and coin featuring Mwai Kibaki, valued at KSh 1,000. For decades, the minting and printing of Kenyan currency were handled by De La Rue until 2023.
