Birmingham’s iconic Bullring shopping centre is the biggest of its kind in a UK city centre. Birmingham is home to five universities - University of Birmingham, Aston University, Birmingham City University, Newman University and University College Birmingham. 97 councillors sit on Birmingham City Council. The longest-established “building-based” theatre is in Birmingham - the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. The Football League - the world’s first league football competition - was founded by Birmingham resident and Aston Villa Football Club director William McGregor in 1888.
