Read this CBC News article for the a balanced perspective on the recent “Indigenous Identity Fraud Summit.”While the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) supports efforts to strengthen legitimate Indigenous citizenship and self-determination, the summit organized by the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) and Chiefs of Ontario (COO) had the opposite effect. The event excluded Métis Nation governments, distorting Métis history and identity to advance the MMF’s political agenda. This revisionist approach, lacking dialogue with Métis Nation governments, is both unproductive and dangerous. In response, the MNO is committed to fostering dialogue and has launched Ontario Métis Facts to share accurate information and promote mutual respect.
