CBC Group Considers Taking South Korea’s Hugel Private


The Singapore-based buyout firm could relist Hugel in Hong Kong, but no final decision has been made, the people said. A representative for CBC declined to comment, while a representative for Hugel didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. Hugel has lost half of its market value since August, when the consortium led by CBC Group inked a $1.5 billion deal to acquire a 46.9% stake in the Seoul-listed company from Bain Capital. Shares of Hugel fell as much as 3.3% on Tuesday, giving it a market value of about $1 billion. The Hugel deal marked CBC’s first venture into the medical aesthetics sector -- the health care buyout fund also invests in biopharmaceuticals, medtech and services, including Hong Kong-listed Everest Medicines Ltd. and Nasdaq-listed I-Mab.
