CAR children victims of cycle of rapesFrom JEAN KASSONGO in Kinshasa, DRCKINSHASA, (CAJ News) – CHILDREN that have suffered rape in the war-torn Central African Republic have suffered further gender and sexual abuse at centres the United Nations created to help survivors get back on their feet. The United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) said there were 145 cases of gender-based violence, including seven cases of sexual violence reported in the 13 listening centres since the beginning of the year. At the listening centres, minors are supposed to be counseled. An outbreak of fire at a local refugee camp also left 2 500 people without food and shelter. A further displacement of some 3 700 people has been evaluated during a humanitarian assessment in Bambari-Ippy axes.
