CAF announces rescheduled dates for 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations football tournament

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) announced on Thursday (5 March) that the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) has been re-scheduled to 25 July – 16 August. The original tournament was due to take place in Morocco from 17 March to 3 April but has been rescheduled "in the light of certain unforseen circumstances", stated the CAF website. The 14th edition of the women's football competition, which is due to take place in Morocco for the third consecutive time, features 16 teams, expanded from 12 at the previous tournament. Added jeopardy comes in the form of teams vying for qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup to be hosted in Brazil. Four African sides will gain automatic qualification from WAFCON, while two more will go into the inter-continental qualifiers.
