CA gives nod to Guevarra, Puyat

THE Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday approved the ad interim appointment of Menardo Guevarra as secretary of the Department of Justice (DoJ). Guevarra, who was appointed as DoJ chief on April 15 to replace Vitaliano Aguirre 2nd, underwent more than an hour of grilling by members of the CA Committee on Justice and the Judicial and Bar Council. The DOJ chief was referring to the Vigilant Investigative and Security Agency Inc. that allegedly has two contracts with the department. Meanwhile, Senate President Vicente Sotto 3rd and Sen. Panfilo Lacson asked Guevarra on the policy of the DoJ in detaining high-profile drug suspects after being cleared by the department. Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, chairman of the CA justice committee, in his sponsorship speech on Guevarra’s appointment, expressed confidence that the latter has enough experience for him to be able to run the DoJ.
