Another layer of violenceOne of the many promises by the Bharatiya Janata Party in its Election 2019 manifesto is one to allow the purchase of property in Indian-Held Kashmir by non-Kashmiris. This provision has constitutional protection ever since the inclusion of Indian-Held Kashmir in the Indian Union. The BJP is thus adding another layer of violence to the region. Already, the refusal of the BJP government even to talk to Pakistan about Kashmir has meant that yet another generation of Kashmiris is growing up deprived of exercising its right to self-determination. The PDP came for much flak at the time it formed its coalition.
