The 17th Toronto International BuskerFest for Epilepsy at Woodbine Park features a mind-boggling variety of street performers from clowns to acrobats, musicians, jugglers, comedians and fire-eaters. A veteran of Toronto’s BuskerFest, he has been performing since 1999 and often entertains at private events. The Toronto couple won’t be perform the Ukrainian folk opera at BuskerFest but the traditional polyphonic folk music Marichka has extensively researched in her role as ethno musicologist. Through travelling, interviews with villagers and painstaking research, she has rediscovered many folk songs, which informed the musical score of the opera. “So much of history is embedded in songs, especially traditional folk music.”
