South Canterbury is the "natural capital" of New Zealand, the audience of more than 400 at the 2016 Business Excellence Awards (BEA) was told on Friday. Held at the Caroline Bay Hall, with a three-course meal made from South Canterbury products, it was an evening to take pride in being a local. "The entries I saw, I was really proud, they were way up there ... South Canterbury is in a sweet spot with the people, water, land, tourism, agriculture and technology. Timaru Heartland Technology scooped the supreme award, after its sister company, Heartland Design and Print, won the same prize last year.
