Bush fire north of Auckland 'increasing in size'

Fire engines have been scrambled to battle a blaze in Okura Bush, north of Auckland. A bush fire north of Auckland is "increasing in size" as fire engines from around the region rush towards it, said a Fire and Emergency spokeswoman. The 100 metre by 200 metre blaze was near Haigh's Rd, Okura Bush, running from the waterfront up a cliff face, she said. Okura Bush is 30km north of Auckland, beside an estuary at the base of the Whangaparoa Peninsula. The Okura Bush Walkway was temporarily closed by the Department of Conservation in 2018 to help prevent the spread of kauri dieback.
