Bus trip aborted for alleged drug mule

Jettanant Khamthawee was a passenger on a Chiang Mai-Hua Hin bus that was stopped at a narcotics-suppression checkpoint set up by police and soldiers on the Paholyothin Highway in Lampang’s Sop Prap district. Officers allegedly found the large quantity of methamphetamine in two bags that Jettanant had with him. Police said Jettanant admitted having travelled from his Prachuap Khiri Khan hometown to pick up the drugs in Chiang Mai and was to be paid Bt200,000 for delivering them to a customer in Prachuap Khiri Khan’s Sam Roi Yod district. They said the suspect confessed to having successfully smuggled drugs the same way once before, just last month. Jattanant was taken for interrogation as to the identities of the drug dealers and accomplices.
