Bus route changes narrows visually-impaired woman's time to see mother

An Intercity bus arrives at Blenheim Railway station. The cancellation of the Friday and Sunday evening services to Nelson has limited a visually-impaired Nelson woman’s opportunities to see her elderly mother. Kepes and a friend used to spend seven hours with her 84-year-old mother Eva, a holocaust survivor and Hungarian immigrant, when she took the bus from Nelson to Blenheim every couple of weeks. However, cuts to the Intercity bus service she relied on resulted in the Nelson woman spending more time travelling than actually visiting Eva. In the meantime, she hoped to establish a ride-share arrangement with someone who travelled between Nelson and Blenheim, or like-minded people affected by the change.
