THE familiar and nauseating smell of “burning rubber” has again descended on several areas in Gopeng. The 62-year-old food seller said the stench would be present starting after 5pm regularly. She said dark smoke could be seen coming from somewhere in the distance, towards the Kota Bharu direction in Gopeng. In Kampung Merawan Indah, Simpang Pulai, villager Saadun Abu Bakar said the smell was more like “plastic burning” rather than tyres and it could be detected occasionally during dawn. “There has been talk about these ‘tyre burning’ activities again and that the smell comes from factories near Kota Bharu, Gopeng.
