A controlled burn jumped to four other piles on a northern Southland farm on Friday. A controlled burn is out of control in northern Southland. Fire fighters were called to a farm on Ardlussa-Cattle Flat Rd, near Sheepwash Creek Rd, about 3.25pm on Friday. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said there were five burn heaps on fire. MetService says the average wind speed across Southland reached 37kmh on Friday, and was blowing about 34kmh at 4.30pm.
