The gemstones nestled on jewelry by Ana Khouri, Delfina Delettrez, HUM, Hunrod, Raphaele Canot, and Sophie Bille Brahe, were all grown by Diamond Foundry in their labs in California and Washington. ‘Mined or grown’ is no longer necessarily a binary choice: “both kinds of diamonds can exist side-by-side,” says Ye-Hui Goldenson, director of public relations and communications for Diamond Foundry. Founded in 2012 by Martin Roscheisen and Jeremy Scholz, both from the tech industry, Diamond Foundry is widely considered to be a disruptor in the space. Perhaps the most striking illustration of this is the recent charity auction of the (RED) Diamond Ring, designed by Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson, at Sotheby’s Miami in December.
