Boston second baseman Brock Holt, blinded by the sun, let Steve Pearce’s pop-up drop in the third inning, allowing Russell Martin and Josh Donaldson score. The Jays added two more in the inning when Ryan Goins singled in Kendrys Morales and Pearce to give Toronto a 5-3 lead. Reliever Dominic Leone, who earned his second win after relieving and Liriano and retiring the first seven batters he faced, was more effusive. But the wheels came off for the lefty in the second, after Toronto’s offence failed to extend the margin.
