Building work shuts down at new National Children’s Hospital

Building contractor BAM says work has ceased at the National Children’s Hospital, the largest construction site in the country. BAM said it is continuing separate COVID-19 related work on the main St. James’s hospital campus at the request of hospital management. BAM said it received confirmation on Tuesday the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board (NPHDB) that work on the €1.4bn National Children’s Hospital is not considered essential construction services in the current COVID-19 crisis. On Monday the contractor shut down construction on the site of the Intel plant in Co Kildare. The company said it had earlier understood this site fell under the exemptions for essential work, but on Monday received clarification that the work at Intel was to cease.
