Six fire crews were sent to a blaze in a commercial building on Heathcote St in Woolston about 1.20am on Sunday. A building has been “extensively damaged” and some nearby residents were evacuated following an early morning fire in Christchurch. He said initially two crews from Woolston and Christchurch central were sent and found the building “well involved in fire”. A second alarm was raised and a further four crews from Spreydon, Christchurch central and a specialist crew were sent. However, police evacuated residents from surrounding properties as a precaution while crews fought the blaze, he said.
