Buhari embarks on peace mission to Mali Thursday

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday depart for Bamako, the Republic of Mali on a one-day visit, following the briefing by the ECOWAS Special Envoy to the country Goodluck Jonathan. “We will ask the President of Niger, who is the Chairman of ECOWAS to brief us as a group, and we will then know the way forward,” President Buhari had said. A resistance group, M5, is insisting that the Constitutional Court must be dissolved, and the President resign, before peace can return to the country. The last time President Buhari traveled out of the country was in February 9, 2020. President Buhari and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed witnessed the signing of the agreement in Addis Ababa by their Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama and Gedu Andargachew, respectively, during the State Visit of the Nigerian leader.
