What happened lately is that 25 career ambassadors, who attained the retirement age, or 35 years of public service in December 2018, were recalled. But the envoys were recalled by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, on September 2, 2023. Akinterinwa said, “Political ambassadors are not interested in any national interest to protect abroad. “If we are suggesting academic diplomats, I agree with that; there are many academic diplomats in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Most unfortunately, it is the political ambassadors that have always behaved in a manner considered not compatible with the status of diplomats,” he added.
