The price of sweets may come down in the proposed budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has proposed changes to duties on different products including sweets which resulted in decrease in the price of sweets. It is proposed to halve the VAT on sweets in the budget. Additionally, VAT reductions are also being applied to certain other national packaged goods. The finance minister read out the proposals for the 2023-2024 fiscal year's budget, amounting to Tk7,61,785 crore, in parliament on Thursday.
