Buddhist dad disputes children's conversion - Nation

KUALA LUMPUR: The conversion of two children to Islam has caused a dispute between their Muslim convert mother and their Buddhist father. Sulaiman, who is representing the Federal Territories Registrar of Muallaf (new converts), said this case was different from the Indira Gandhi one. “The court should distinguish this from kindergarten teacher Indira Gandhi’s case as her children were not present during the conversion made at the Perak religious department,” he said in his submission. He said consent from both parents was needed to convert the children as in Indira Gandhi’s case. “In the present case there is no consent from the children’s father and therefore Indira Gandhi’s case is applicable here,” she said.
