Buddha Isara ‘sought permission to use initials’

Following his defrocking, the man now known as Suwit Thongprasert initially confessed to unauthorised use of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej and HM Queen Sirikit’s|initials in amulet making. Yesterday, however, his lawyer claimed that his client had indeed sought permission from a top Palace official, albeit without asking for that permission in writing. Bangkok Remand Prison chief Krit Krasaetip said Suwit had told him he did not want to be treated outside the prison. “Because both monks do not have life-threatening conditions, we have sent them back to the Bangkok Remand Prison,” said the Corrections Department’s|director general Pol Colonel Naras Savestanan. Six monks were defrocked and sent to the Bangkok Remand Prison last week.
