Now, the car that I’d only seen on my wall, and at classic car events, being driven by others, was right in front of me. After a couple of false starts, I managed to slide my way in behind that gorgeous woodgrain steering wheel and into some fully restored plush, cherry-red leather bucket seats. But, and I emphasize the ‘but,’ once I’d adjusted my driving style to suit the characteristics of this E-Type, I had a blast. Driving an E-Type convertible on sections of today’s Monaco F1 street circuit, through the legendary tunnel, for example, was the most surreal motoring experience I’ve had. I suppose the next time I’ll get to drive an E-Type in Monaco will be virtually, inside Gran Turismo.
