Bubble, Toil and Trouble: Do You Know The Full 115-Year History Of SodaStream?


Jonathan Bloom/Getty Images For ForbesPepsiCo plans to buy SodaStream for $3.2 billion, the latest turn in a very fizzy history of the maker of at-home soda machines. Originally founded in 1903, SodaStream was created by George Gilbey, who also ran a famous London gin distiller bearing his name. Cadbury Schweppes bought it in 1985, then served it up to Soda-Club, an Israeli distributor of SodaStream products, in 1997. It went public in 2010 with revenue around $140 million. But Coca-Cola tried and failed to do something similar, taking a stake in Green Mountain Coffee Roaster and then releasing a short-lived soda product concocted using Green Mountain’s Keurig machines.
