As expected, Kell Brook defeated Michael Zerafa, an unsung Australian, in an eliminator for the world light-middleweight title last night, but he failed to impress against an opponent short of world class. The points verdict was clear and unanimous, but that should be little comfort for a former champion who was needing a much more emphatic, concussive performance. Brookstarted brilliantly and an early stoppage appeared likely, but the Sheffield man lost his way and his failure to dispatch Zerafa, and the frequency with which he was hit by his opponent, were signs that his best is behind him and that his future is uncertain.
