OPINION: They say travels broaden the mind and I certainly agree with that sentiment - but, as I've discovered in a recent visit to Myanmar, it can also throw up the occasional quirky revelation. Myanmar, which was formerly known as Burma before the name was officially changed in 1989, is a charming country with a fascinating history. The name change became a bit of a political football, occurring as it did during the reign of the military junta. The other theory was that the general made the decision after a dream that indicated similar benefits to his country if motorists switched sides. Just like the decision to drive on the right, the decision is shrouded in mystery.
