Brnjas family hopes Johnny Bear ends Canada’s International shutout streak

Johnny Bear — co-owned by John’s good friend Danny Dion, owner of Alberta-based Bear Stables — is easily the best horse the Brnjas family’s Colebrook Farms has raced. At first, the horse Ashlee called “Marshmallow” looked like he was destined for low-budget claiming races. Johnny Bear won but Ashlee insisted the horse not be risked in a claiming race again. A win in the International over European and American invaders by Johnny Bear would be the first by a Canadian-bred since 1999. John knows the race is tough but says Johnny Bear is as good as he has ever been.
