Connor the labrador cross was covered in bites and scars when he was found by volunteers at Zante Strays last summer. He had been used in grisly “warm-ups” where fighting dogs bite placid pooches to get their bloodlust up before being pitted against a more vicious animal. She was working on the Greek holiday island during her summer break from studying to be a teacher. Natalie Coles, office manager at Wren Hall, said: “Connor has lifted the spirits of everyone here.”Zante Strays is run by Jamie Contonis and volunteers. For £365 they arrange health care, pet passport and transport so dogs can find new homes in the UK and Europe.
