Briton arrested in Syria accused of ‘fighting for Isis’


Kurdish fighters posted this video online of a man who gave his name as Anwar Miah, from BirminghamA British pharmacist has been arrested by western-backed forces fighting to capture the last remnants of Islamic State-held territory in eastern Syria. A social media account belonging to the international brigade of mainly European volunteers fighting with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) showed a video of the man being questioned. He gave his name as Anwar Miah, from Birmingham, and denied being an Isis fighter. At first he said he was a doctor, but then added: “I’m a qualified pharmacist from the UK. I studied medicine and pharmacy.”He said that it was true that Isis controlled the area where he worked, but that he was just “helping the people” in hospitals.
