A British woman has been jailed for three years in Egypt after accidentally confessing to smuggling drugs. Laura Plummer, 33, a shop assistant from Hull, was arrested in October at Hurghada airport after she was found to be carrying 290 Tramadol tablets in her bag. Tramadol is a prescription painkiller in the UK but a banned substance in Egypt. The case opened yesterday, Christmas Day, in Safaga, a Red Sea town 300 miles south of Cairo.
