Bethany Smith, 18, was working as a deckhand on Germania Nova, a 60m schooner, when her ropes reportedly came loose and she fell to the deck. She was rushed to hospital but died of multiple injuries. The teenager, originally from Glyndyfrdwy, Denbighshire, in North Wales, was crewing on the boat she “fell in love with”, according to an online profile. She had been sailing the world with her family for ten years.
