British military invests a million in virtual reality headsets for soldiers


British soldiers may soon be able to train in tricky terrains and hostile situations by popping on a pair of virtual reality (VR) headsets. The British Army is trialing the headsets that simulate virtual environments and combined with physical items to create 'mixed reality'. The Virtual Reality Training pilot (VRLT) is being trailed by the Ministry of Defense (MOD) through a £1 million contract with Czech software developer Bohemia Interactive. It is hoped that the cutting edge technology could be integrated into front-line British military training in the future. As stated on the official government website, the pilot will test the following applications of the headset:High Resolution VR Headsets to improve environmental immersion.
