A British family has told how they lost more than £1,300 after their flight to New York was delayed - starting their dream trip with a hellish 24-hour ordeal. However, his Aer Lingus flight to New York's JFK Airport failed to depart on time. This came with significant financial consequences on the family - they lost their first night's hotel booking worth £300, as well as a pre-booked sightseeing trip priced at £200. The family did receive compensation for the flights after two months but Wayne argues, 'it didn't come close to reflecting the real cost of what happened'. The findings come as AirHelp launches its 'The Real Cost of Flight Disruptions' campaign, aimed at raising awareness of passenger rights and the hidden consequences travellers face when travel plans collapse.
