Britain's Jack Laugher and Chris Mears took gold in the men's 3 metre springboard event on Wednesday, dethroning reigning Olympic champions China. But in Rio, Qin and teammate Cao Yuan had to settle for third. Chinese divers had been targeting a sweep of all eight gold medals at the Rio diving competition, after winning six of out the total at the London 2012 Olympics. The Chinese team, led by Qin Kai, had held the men's 3 metre title since the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Prompting further concern amongst athletes and spectators, by Wednesday the neighbouring water polo pool had also adopted a green hue.
