TROON (UNITED KINGDOM) - British Open leader Phil Mickelson got his second round under way at 8:25 am (0725 GMT) on Friday morning, braced for far more trying conditions at Royal Troon. Mickelson shot an opening round 63 in glorious sunshine on Thursday, equalling the lowest ever score at a major to lead at eight under par, three shots clear of Germany's Martin Kaymer and another American, Patrick Reed. Mickelson, 46, later said he "felt like crying" as he was cruelly denied history but his round was flawless, featuring eight birdies and no dropped shots. But after the idyllic conditions on Thursday, Mickelson was readying himself for the challenge on Friday. Mickelson, the 2013 Open champion, came within inches of becoming the first ever player to shoot 62 in a major championship when his birdie putt at the last lipped out.
