Eddie van Hoof, who was named UK coach of the year in 2016, has been suspended by British Gymnastics. Van Hoof has led the men’s artistic gymnastics programme since 2005 and was honoured by the Queen with an MBE after the 2016 Games. This paper also revealed that a British Gymnastics licensed coach was being investigated by police after parents made allegations about emotional and physical abuse of young athletes. Rob Greenwood, who shared the coach of the year award with Van Hoof in 2016, was let go from his role as Paralympic swimming performance director after an investigation found he presided over a “culture of fear”. Van Hoof is yet to comment on the investigation.
