Defence budget requestAfter 14 years of standing empty, military bunkers in the UK are going to be upgraded so they can store nuclear weapons again. The US withdrew its B61 nuclear weapons from there in 2008. At the time, such bombs were seen as obsolete and hopes were higher for a further disarmament of nuclear weapons. Against the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its president’s threats to use nuclear weapons against NATO, nuclear weapon modernisations programmes are taking place.
