Tensions are running high in Westminster as the numbers of coronavirus cases continue to grow but ministers are divided over what to do. Covid-19 patients are currently occupying fewer than two per cent of all hospital beds in England. The most NHS recent snapshot — released three weeks ago — showed just 478 out of 110,000 beds in use were by Covid-19 patients on September 3. Even at the peak of the crisis in Britain, only a quarter of all beds were occupied by virus patients. Deaths of people in their own homes from causes other than the virus continued to run at far above average rates.
