The family of Ms Rand have demanded to know why Imiuru was not caught after the earlier attack, and the police watchdog is investigating. He is already serving 17 years behind bars over the death of Ms Rand. Ms Rand, 47, died of multiple organ failure after contracting septicaemia due to the burns. Imiuru had denied the acid attack, although he refused to leave his prison cell to attend the first day of his trial. The watchdog is investigating whether releasing the footage earlier could have helped bring Imiuru to justice before the incident which killed Ms Rand.
