It will be scant consolation for Dean Holden, whose reign as Bristol City head coach was abruptly and brutally ended on Tuesday night, that he leaves the club not with anger or the sound of celebration, bit silence and sympathy. Having taken charge in August after a six-week interview process which only heaped the pressure on his inexperienced shoulders, all 41 matches he has taken charge of - including those as caretaker - have been behind closed doors. But it also added to the cold, empty feeling surrounding his departure that he was of sufficient experience and gravitas to fulfil the brief at Bristol City. As Holden's exit was confirmed at 11pm, it was merely confirmation of all-too grim reality that, for many supporters, was far from a surprise. Holden's assistants Paul Simpson and Keith Downing will now take temporary charge of the team for Saturday's Championship fixture against Barnsley, and potential beyond.
