This global presence, however, comes with the price tag of billions of single-use plastic bottles produced per year. Coca-Cola, however, has confirmed that they increased plastic bottle production from 58% to 59% of their global packaging in 2016. What's even more concerning is that in 2016 just 7% of plastic bottles were eventually turned into new bottles. The 93% of plastic bottles that aren't re-used add to the mountains of plastic bottles on land and in the ocean. While they have shown progress in the percent of the recycled material in their plastic bottles, they also aim to ramp up plastic bottle production in the coming years.
