Brighton striker Neal Maupay, 24, received threatening and abusive messages via Instagram following a match last year. But thanks to the Premier League ’s online abuse system authorities were able to track down the messages to pursue legal action against Derek Ng De Ren who was subsequently convicted of harassment. In April, the Mirror launched a campaign to stop online abuse and top names from the world of sport today back our call for firms to take tougher action against those behind the attacks.
