Newcastle were limp, toothless, shambolic, lacking ambition and, ultimately, embarrassingly outclassed once again as Brighton piled the pressure on Bruce and his players. They ended the game fortunate that only Leandro Trossard, Danny Welbeck and Neal Maupay scored. Unlike Brighton, Newcastle possessed minimal attacking chemistry. First they lost Hayden to a serious-looking knee injury after Yves Bissouma fell awkwardly but accidentally onto the Newcastle midfielder's planted leg. And in the injury time that followed Trossard, the match-winner against Southampton, brilliantly bent Brighton into the lead from outside the box.
